Dear Families,

Happy June everyone!  Yes, you read that correctly, it is JUNE!  We’ve entered our final month of school.  Where’d the year go?!  I suppose it zips by when you’re surrounded with amazing students every day who make you smile, laugh, and rejoice!  I have enjoyed every moment creating wonderful memories with our class.

As we enjoy the final few weeks of school, I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all my families who have consistently supported their child in my teaching.  Together, we have made a significant difference in their academic, social, and behavioural needs!  As always, I am delighted by all my students progress and reaching their potential!

Silent Auction Basket:
Thank you to ALL the families from our class who donated to this year's Fun Fair Basket.  I really appreciate your time, efforts, and funds you spent to make ours a great one!  I think many will be eyeing up our basket as it's filled with MANY unique and awesome arts and craft materials!

Fun Fair:
Just a friendly reminder that we will be having our annual Fun Fair here at Nottawa next week June 8th from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Time to order your child(ren)s wrist band for this event!

You can order as many as you want so that children that don't attend school yet can also enjoy a night of unlimited fun as well!!  The cost is $10 per wrist band, which gives you a ticket to win a door prize as well as unlimited access to:  inflatable activities, Elephant Thoughts activity centre, Lazer tag, Zorb balls, face painting, balloon making, and carnival games.

The wristband(s) will come home the day of Fun Fair in the agenda. You can pick up your door prize tickets at the entrance of Fun Fair.  You will receive one ticket per wristband purchased.  Door prizes so far include: golf passes, spa passes, restaurant certificates, and a week at camp.

You may also purchase your wristband at Fun Fair, but we encourage you to use the School Cash online.

King's Wharf Theatre:
Students in Grades 1-4 will be going to Penetang to see the play "Marathon of Hope" on Thurs. June 8th.  We will be leaving the school at 8:45 a.m. so we are asking the students to be at school by 8:35 a.m.  Please pack your child's lunch as usual.  Please DO NOT send in extra money for the snack counter.  You may wish to provide "special snacks" for them to enjoy though :) Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Math Note:
This week, I sent home a math note which explains our next unit of study - PROBABILITY!  Understanding probability is essential in many areas of mathematics.  We will describe, compare, and predict the probability of events, as well as conduct probability experiments.  Your child will gain confidence using probability terms such as impossible, certain, likely, unlikely, equally likely, probable, and certain.

We will investigate possible outcomes of simple events, such as spinning a spinner, and make predictions about what will happen in simple probability situations.  Playing games that involve chance is one way to explore this concept.  Let the probability FUN BEGIN!

Poetry Cafe:
Did you see your invite for our Cafe coming up on June 22nd?!  Your child is planning, rehearsing, and creating unique poems to share with YOU!!  We are most excited!  The date for our Poetry Cafe will be Thurs. June 22nd during period 3/4 11:45 - 1:00 p.m.  Please RSVP by the date suggested on the note that came home so I know approximate numbers.  If you know for sure that your child cannot attend our Cafe, please let me know via the agenda as soon as possible. This is greatly appreciated for planning purposes.

Jakob:
Did you know May was Allergy Awareness Month?  I would like to extend a thank you to Jakob and his Mom for providing an informative DVD and accompanying information about how to safely use and administer an EpiPen to people in need.  This is important to know as in our school we have adults and students who do have life threatening allergies and if we can help them through our understanding and knowledge of what to do in an emergency, we can be a support!

Kevin:
Today was Kevin's last day with us here at Nottawa.  He is moving to Alberta with his family. Best wishes on your new adventures in the West.  We are really going to miss you and your wonderful, kind spirit!  Keep shining and smiling!  You have been an incredible asset to the Nighthawk family!

Growth Mindset:
June's character trait of the month is ...

Let's do OUR part to be responsible in our thoughts, words, and actions boys and girls!!

Namaste,
Miss Gill
